After the Storm at Farm Trouvaille
Hi friends,
It feels like forever since we last connected, and there’s so much to share. As many of you know, Hurricane Helene swept through our little corner of North Carolina with a force we’ll never forget. It’s been a tough journey for our farm and our community, but we’re making strides every day.
I wanted to give you an update—on how we’ve been doing, what’s happening in the area, and how we’re moving forward. Most of all, I want you to know that the farm is open again, and we’d love to welcome you back.
The Storm’s Impact on the Farm
When Helene arrived, she didn’t hold back. Here at Farm Trouvaille, we saw a landslide that knocked down fencing and left most of our pastures unusable for months. All of the pasture waters were not able to be used because the landslide also broke important pipes. It was a little chaotic for a while, but thankfully, our cows stayed put (bless their hearts!). They made do in one pasture, though I know they were longing to stretch their legs a bit more.
Finding an excavator during those first few weeks was like trying to find a needle in a haystack—everyone in the area needed one. But eventually, we got it done, and the landslide has been stabilized. Now the cows are back to grazing across more space, and life feels a little more normal for them.
We also lost a gate when a tree came down on it. It wasn’t in the best shape to begin with, so it’s probably for the best that we’ve replaced it. Now we have a sturdy new gate and a bit more peace of mind.
The Farm is Open and Ready for Guests
The exciting news? Farm Trouvaille is open again! We’ve been welcoming guests for a couple of months now, and it’s been so uplifting to see the farm filled with life again. Just a couple of weeks ago, we even hosted a wedding here—it was such a joyful day.
The roads to the farm are clear, and everything is accessible. Whether you’re looking for a quiet winter escape, some time to recharge, or even a special spot to celebrate, we’d love to have you here.
A Community That Needs You
While the farm is recovering, many of our neighbors are still struggling. Burnsville is bouncing back, but the scars from the storm are still visible. The water tower, for example, is still on its side—a constant reminder of Helene’s strength. Some businesses in Spruce Pine weren’t able to reopen after the storm, which breaks our hearts.
Local shops, restaurants, and businesses that have weathered the storm need your support now more than ever. Burnsville is beautiful this time of year, especially with the snow-covered landscapes, and it’s the perfect time to come explore, shop, and eat. Every visit makes a difference, not just for our farm but for the whole community.
Sending Love to Los Angeles
Even as we recover, our hearts go out to everyone in the Los Angeles area who’ve faced devastating fires recently. It’s a stark reminder that nature’s power can touch us all, and we’re keeping everyone affected in our thoughts and prayers.
We’re Here and Would Love to See You
Farm Trouvaille is more than just a place to stay—it’s a place to reconnect with nature, with loved ones, and even with yourself. We’ve missed sharing it with you, and we’re so ready to welcome you back.
